I remember a quip from a long ago history class about the breakdown of markets during the Great Depression: "The invisible hand disappeared"
I can't think about Jewish history and not marvel at two everlasting themes: wicked regimes with great power try to eradicate us, and we outlast them. In that I see the hand, though that is no comfort to the countless victims of those cruel regimes.
Yes, the countless victims. The setting aside of days to mourn our history on low stools and mournful texts. Of beating our breasts. Of some feeling comfort--maybe even strength from shreiing doleful despair. It stinks to high heaven.
Btw, went up to see Bob in Rome the other day with Tzafy. Now that was a boost; he is remarkable.
Your words Alex : ...the Jewish people will not lose their balance, because an unseen hand continues to steady and bless them."
No, I disagree with this statement - Jewish people will stand firm as long as they recognize that their own faith is in their own hands. Tevya's state of mind ended with six million victims.
I understand your feeling, Barbara.

Yes, beautiful writing , but I second Dan whoever he is. That Hand you see is invisible to me.
